By focusing on the most significant agricultural waste streams, such as crop residues, livestock waste, pesticide waste, and recyclable materials like plastic and wood, the project seeks to close nutrient loops and support the area\u2019s sustainable development. The project involves detailed field research, the creation of local integrated management plans, and the implementation of efficient waste collection and processing systems. One of the key components of the CARED project is the development of a comprehensive system for the separate collection and management of nearly the entire agricultural waste produced in the region. This includes the establishment of designated areas for collecting empty pesticide containers, the installation of biobed systems to prevent soil and water contamination, and the provision of necessary equipment for bio-waste processing. The project also emphasizes the importance of educating and engaging local farmers through training sessions and public awareness campaigns to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the waste management systems. Additionally, the CARED project incorporates innovative activities such as the creation of recreational areas from recycled materials, aligning with the principles of the green agenda and the European Bauhaus initiative. These activities aim to enhance the environmental and social value of the Prespa region by transforming waste into valuable resources and promoting a circular economy.
