Coordination of regional policies for the forest with the help of a new governance instrument : the “model forest”

Σύντομη περιγραφή

The concept appears to be well adapted to address the recurrent challenges of the Mediterranean forest. A model forest is a « development process based upon partnership, through which individuals and groups representing a diversity of values work together in a common vision for the sustainable development of a landscape in which forests represent a critical feature ». The objective of the FORÊT MODÈLE MED project is to set up a coordination of regional policies through the joint definition of a “Mediterranean model” of model forest and its concrete implementation : the creation of the first model forest in each region (the second in Castilla y Leon), thanks to the project, is the concrete objective shared by all partners). The work programme follows a logical progress framework in 3 steps: – technical component 1: definition of a Mediterranean model of model forest and delivery a methodological, – technical component 2: implementation of the common strategy through the creation of 1 model forest per region, – technical component 3: definition of a strategy to promote the transnational network of model forests created by the project, with a view to make the most of the model forest as an innovating and efficient tool for territorial governance. The dissemination of this model of territorial governance will be benefiting to the Mediterranean as a whole.
