Joint Promoting Actions of the Local Entrepreneurship at Greece/Albania Less Favoured Areas (LFA) on the Viticulture and Wine Production Business Sector

Common Challenge/Overall Objective:The economies of the GR/AL CB Less Favoured areas (LFA) diverse at all spatial scales. While agriculture is perceived as vital and proved to be the most resilient sector of the CB local economy (the agriculture sector both in GR and AL increased GVA by 3,2%&12,6%respectively),employment in other sectors is generally higher(GR area is considerably less agriculture and more heavily service-oriented than the AL one). Moreover, both in two countries,LFAs policies often address issues related to economic development, infrastructure & environment.WINCOME is about how a joint route of promoting the outward-looking of SMEs & local wine products to international markets can support non-homogeneous areas to flourish in more than one field. The WINCOME's overall objective is in full accordance with the programme's specific objective of the thematic priority [...]

Development of (e-) bicycle tourism, in a nature conscious and sustainable way, to promote local biodiversity – e-natura

The common challenge for both areas are:a) An obvious lack of touristic facilities that can attract visitors outside the winter season. b) The fact that the existing tourism, is mainly appealing to social groups that exceed the age of 18, with only a small percentage of visitors being children or/and adolescents. Considering the exceptional geographical features of the areas and their natural and cultural heritage, this proposal provides a unique opportunity to address these problems in a cost-efficient way. The envisioned project targets actions in 2 cross-border regions, that both exhibit a season-specific touristic peak during a small winter period. The importance of the project becomes evident in light of recent climate changes, predicting a shortening of this period in the following years. This project [...]

Sustainable and almost zero-emission communities and the role of public buildings – nZECom

In this project, the benefits of the zero-energy buildings technologies and of the geothermal exploitation technologies on small communities or cities are evaluated. The public buildings can be the first application field of this procedure. The first step is the analytical energy audit of close-to-each-other public buildings in each country and the estimation of their energy efficiency, before any measure is applied. These audits will indicate the thermal needs of the buildings, before and after the application of energy saving technologies. In this phase, the geothermal potential of each will be evaluated, in order to investigate the possibility to replace the old heating systems with a geothermal-based heating system. At the next step, two studies will be developed: (a) The first will indicate which energy [...]

Targeted ACTIons for the preservation, rehabilitation and promotion of historical, Cultural and naturAL assets encouraging TOURISM, in the entire GR-AL cross-border area

The TACTICAL TOURISM project aims to unify all the Regions of the Cross-Border area by creating a network of bodies capable of materialising policies and actions for the preservation of the cultural and natural resources in the interests of touristic development. In fact, this project was initiatied by the legal representatives of all seven regional authorities of the region (Regional Councils of Vlore, Berat, Gjirokaster and Korce in Albania, Regions of Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Macedonia in Greece). The provisional consortium decided to prioritise the actions included in this proposal selecting those that would have the biggest impact in assisting tourism within the available budget, whereby the final consortium was agreed upon the basis of the bodies that were best fitted to implement the [...]

Integrated waste management facilities for boosting recycling and composting in 7 Regions through cross-border activities

During the last decades, Greece has made significant efforts to tackle with major waste management issues and has worked towards EU policies for waste prevention, reuse and recycling, but is still behind national targets for year 2020. At the same time, Albania is striving to develop its basic infrastructures in order to avoid uncontrolled waste disposal. WASTE RREACT aproaches low recycling rates in Greece and almost zero in Albania with the implementation of different facilities/activities in 7 Regions allowing direct comparison of the effects of each measure. These will be enhanced by a wide environmental awareness campaign addressing both citizens and schools, the production of technical guidelines/plansand the operation of an online waste monitoring platform for sharing information and strengthening cross-border co-operation. Thus the overall [...]

Improving water management and supply infrastructure via smart technologies, policies and tools

Water is essential for human life, nature and the economy. It is permanently renewed but it is also finite and cannot be made or replaced with other resources. Freshwater constitutes only about 2% of the water on the planet and competing demands may lead to an estimated 40% global water supply shortage by 2030" while drinking water losses from ageing water distribution networks leakage within Member States vary from 7 % to 50% or more. (Blueprint to Safeguard Europe's Water Resources). It is the aim of SAVE-WATER project to address these challenges to preserve our resource base for life, nature and the economy and protect human health. More specifically, the overall objective of the SAVE-WATER is to increase the capacity of cross border infrastructure in [...]

DEVELOPMENT & PROMOTION OF CULTURAL TOURISTIC DESTINATIONS THROUGH MULTIMEDIA TOOLS

The "IT CULTURE" project aims to highlight and enhance the cultural heritage of the region and "œgrab" the attention of the tourist public. Although the area is of an unique significance of culture elements and natural beauty attractions, it is not yet sufficiently developed. The new tourism product will include innovations (through IT systems) that will help promoting it, in a way that so far has not been achieved. The purpose of the project is the tourist and cultural enhancement of cross-border region with a view to develop a new and more attractive tourist destination. The direct outputs of the project will be the preservation and promotion of cultural resources as a prerequisite for tourism development. The overall objective of the proposed project will be [...]

Leading the way to improve Energy Efficiency in public schools and propagate the use of renewable energy sources

One of the main challenges in the cross-border area is the lack of progress in the field of renewable energy sources (RES) and energy-saving in public buildings. LED Project addresses this challenge, focusing on a specific group of public buildings: schools. Through children and the educational system, the adult population may be effectively sensitized which in turn will ensure the long-term impact of the Project. LED is aimed at raising public awareness on energy saving practices through a widespread environmental education campaign addressed to primary and secondary education, followed by a campaign focused on the adult population. The Project will be accompanied by the elaboration of a Cross-Border Plan to achieve common strategy between Greece and Albania (policy alignment) regarding energy efficiency and the use [...]

Integration of Photovoltaic Plants for self-consumption under the Net Metering Concept in Public Buildings/Pumping Stations and Replacement of Low-Efficiency Municipal/Street Lighting with LED Lights

The main concept of the proposed NET METERING project is the application of photovoltaic (PV) stations in public infrastructure based on the Net Metering scheme and the substitution of typical public lighting with energy efficient and biodiversity friendly LED lighting fixtures. Pilot installations are prescribed in both participating countries. In Greece, where Net Metering has been legislated since late 2014, there are but a few completed projects, mainly due to to lack of public awareness. The project addresses this problem, by installing PV stations in 2 of Prespes Municipality's pumping stations selected due to their importance in providing essential services as well as convenient load characteristics. Also, the installation of energy efficient public lighting will be implemented in selected areas within Prespa aiming to provide [...]

Enhancement Extroversion on Culture, Folkloric and Gastronomic Tourism

In recent years, culture has increasingly come to be seen as not just as a legitimate focus for policy in its own right but also as providing myriad social and economic benefits. The contribution of culture to Europes economic development is of increasing interest given the recent global economic downturn. The cultural sector operates in an international and rapidly changing environment where transnational cooperation, mobility, international circulation and the capacity to work on an international level are becoming more and more important. In this context, there is recognition of the need to encourage interaction between communities with either similar or different cultures and build understanding, trust and solidarity between different people. The role of culture in encouraging cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, through improving citizens' [...]
